It's a good album but really falls into nothing compared to the 2 albums before this one. I think people should stop comparing this cd to the last 2 and rate it very low. it's a good album, not worth the 5 of years of waiting but nevertheless a very good album. I think people are so used to Lateralus and Aenima that they think Tool would easy flop another album out. It's not so easy to make classical songs!!

I like the way this album has progressed for me.
They've got two of the most easily accessible songs straight up, and for the first week or so I only really listened to them. Now however I've been getting into tracks 4 and 5, which are ultimately more interesting and less generic.
That said, I'm still struggling to enjoy some songs. I like the album more than Lateralus (which is easily the most overrated album on this site IMO), but less than Aenima. I suspect my affection for Aenima stems more from its historical significance, as it brings back strong memories.
And in terms of the reviews themselves, I think nearly all of the ones I read embodied my opinion in some way.

I thought Iai's review of this album was terrible in the sense that he sounds so misinformed. Opinions are opinions but I can tell right away that you need to listen to the album more. Or perhaps you commented on it in the last 11 pages, I didn't read. I really can't stand it when people use the term "good songwriting" or "bad songwriting" when they have no clue what they are talking about. These songs are complex and take time to digest. They take a lot of time to digest, actually. Someone can say that they don't like the songs, but to call it bad songwriting is just rediculous. Try actually listening to the album more than once. The same claim was made towards Lateralus when it came out and now everyone practically fellates it anytime Tool is brought up in a conversation. Give it some time people. *note* Iai, most of this message wasn't directed specifically at you*This Message Edited On 05.21.06

Great review. to me it accually makes sense and for once i find a review that has someone talking about the album not just dogging on it.

Both compelling arguments... But Iai spelled all his words correctly. So he wins.

And if you seriously think this is complex, please broaden your horizons. The only reason most people fellate Tool so much is because they have no context. As far as prog rock bands go, they're good, but the only thing they've ever done that was special was get to #1 in the charts. Once you've got to grips with some music that's truly challenging, Tool is a piece of cake.
I agree with this, somewhat. This may seem like a terrible attack on the band to overzealous fans, but they need to realize that their favorite band cannot be every superlative for greatness. I'm sorry, but when nearly all of your songs are in the exact same key, you are not the most challenging band in the world.

good review, but the album is still pretty weak...

Great review. I'm not a big Tool fan any way and basically just listen to them for Justin so I thought this album was pretty bad and uninteresting. Apart from the bass of course.

Arrghh!! Why can't I get into this band?

Lateralus and Aenima will be easier to get into, try those Whippy.

I dont think Tool are a band you get into. Either you love them at the start (then get very bitter at a later time, and proclaim them terrible, as seems to be the case with most people), or you'll never like them. Just tolerate them if thats the case

ok so ya this record is pretty amazing and i think that some of your claims are pretty false. sure the guitar solo on Jambi is cool but so are the lyrics and they are easily some of his blatantly best lyrics without having to 'dive deeper into meaning' which admittedly gets annoying from time to time even tho it is interesting. the only lyrics he has that id say rival these would have to be H. and Orestes and Pet. yah im a bit more of an A Perfect Circle fan (who actually broke up like the 15th officially, Yahoo or Google Billy Howerdel and click news). another thing i would be compelled to disagree on is Rosetta Stoned. in case you havnt realized this, there is are a few themes to this album and the theme presented in Blame Hoffman and Rosetta Stoned are really broght out in the 'horrible lyrics'. and we al knowl meynard likes to joke around every once in awhile and i find it quite funny that he talks about forgetting a pen when u meet up with aliens or shit the bed cuz your on lsd. and im tired of hearing 'Rosettta sounds exactly like Third Eye'. how the heck do u guys get those intermixed? ok so Adam uses basically the same riff he did in the middle of the song as he did in H. but thats the best riff hes written so who cares. OH GOD NO, Danny Carey 'recycled' some fills. um who gives a crap hes easily one of the best drummers out there (or at least the most utilized). and i dont know if you guys have noticed this but Justin's best bass lines use the D string and hammer on's on different strings and they are quite easy to play (Schism, Forty-Six & 2, Vicarious but with a whammy i think) and Adam needs to have less annoying riffs at times but clearly he is still a good guitar player and Tool isnt a guitar oriented band like many others. for those reasons i believe Danny and Meynard are still two of the better members but it dosnt matter because they meld so well together.
Clearly im not a 'Tool Head' that has 'Low Horizons' as i listen to other bands that are about or equally talented imo: RHCP, APC, older Incubus. Tool of coarse has their faults but they are still probably one of the better prog rock bands out there (Mars Volta and A Porcupine Tree are also quite good, havnt listened to much else) but honestly this is quite a good album and if we are lucky, because meynards not gonna be with APC for awhile, we'll get another Tool album in 2 or 3 years like they did between Opiate, Undertow and Aenema.
(the endings to wings 1 and 2 are basically the same so play Viginti Tres and Wings pt 1 while listening to Wings 2 on a different player and they sync up pretty cool)

"Clearly im not a 'Tool Head' "
It clearly sounds like you are. I agree with you a lot of people take Rosetta Stoned too seriously and dont see the funny side of it.

Ive listened to this album so many times already and its gonna get a rating of 5 because the songs are so damn good. This album gets better with each listen. Name one other album that has come out this year that is as great as 10000 Days. Too many bands that have a great sound steer away from it into mainstream, easy to follow music. Be glad Tool kept pace with their old sound while experimenting with new.
