The last third of this album is the best stretch of material he's done in his whole solo career

First Regret to Routine is near-perfection.
The rest is no slouch either.

It pretty much is perfection and Ancestral is cool too but I've already expressed my opinion about the other songs

First third is excellent yea
The middle stretch is great too, especially the outro of Routine

three Years Older has grown on me a lot. It feels so nostalgic and as if I'm watching my life roll pass me

Most of the album feels that way, such a masterful wielding of atmosphere and modern electronics along with some of the expected prog worship

I feel like the prog worship ruins the album though. Everything into Routine is amazing and has a really unique atmosphere but then the prog worship begins, which feels out of place and doesn't have that same isolated, yet warm feel to it

That's pretty much how I feel about Home Invasion and Regret #9

Worst yet is that they don't even feel appropriate for the theme.
Guess you just can't take the prog out of stevie.

It would be nice if he expanded his horizons in that way, but this certainly seems like a step in the right direction

Yeah, totally. I'm anticipating a good follow up record now but I'm not quite sure what he'll do next

I'm hoping he and Mikael will soon get bored with prog worship and return to their roots with what they were doing before with their respective bands, but not without one or two more Storm Corrosions of course

Doubtful. I looked at his recent interview on either face culture or his official youtube and he said that he has no plans on going back to PT because "why would he?" considering how much he's loving his solo career.
One can dream...

Mikael can't do the growls anymore. I don't know where he will go next but I'm pretty sure we can say goodbye to the death metal.

If he can growl live, what's preventing him from doing it in the studio? I think the next opeth album will have growls, and the last two albums will be seen as experiments that worked in places.

They had said that river almost had an extra section that got really crazy and even includes growling
