Yeah, this album is exactly like The King Is Dead so if you hated that you'll hate this

But I'm with Boney; their recent material is some of their best

The only albums of theirs I don't like tbh are Picaresque and Majesty

They're not even bad I could just never get into them (and I really tried to)

Picaresque is the best jam.

Yeah they haven't made a full-length album that I consider less than great which is pretty remarkable.

This has actually slipped to my second least favorite though, idk why I don't love this one when I adore The King Is Dead.

CRANE WIFE! I like this, but not quite as much as The King is Dead.

What do you mean by that? I think they're pretty different personally.

I always felt the approach was pretty identical. They both stay away from any dramatic flair and stay rooted in lazed, countryside Americana with plenty of ballads.

I agree with that.

yaaa... i get what Sowing is saying, but the songs on this are so much better than King is Dead imo

I feel the opposite tbh, King Is Dead has Rise to Me, Calamity Song, January Hymn, June Hymn, Dear Avery, Don't Carry It All... I like almost every song on that better than any song on this. Though King Is Dead has a lot of nostalgia for me.

I'm with Boney. I will probably listen to this again soon. I think I've only heard it a few times. I've heard the King is Dead a lot, though.

Saw these guys play in Melbourne last week. They played a lot of this and King is Dead, and they're pretty awesome live. Colin loves interacting with the crowd and he's bloody good at it. Plus they threw in a 'play' of sorts with Mariner's Revenge Song ... couldn't stop laughing.

They put on a hell of a live show. Tons of fun.

Even though their studio albums have (IMO) gotten better, I feel like their live shows would have been more fun back in the hazards days...

Yeah I bet a Hazards era show was doubly amazing.
