They were one of the worst bands I've heard live. Bad nu metal. What was even funnier is they kept trying to make the crowd do a circle pit and separate the crowd, but no one would. He must have forgot people went to see dir en grey and not slipknot

Yeah it was a great gig, but for me the best part was the encore, people lost their shit.
|
| |
That sounds sick, what songs did they play for the encore?

They played Red Soil, Saku and Hageshisa To, Kono Mune No Naka De. Shinya's drumming on SAKU nearly tore my face off, heavy as hell.

Hope they finally come to Florida sometime, would love to catch them. I've heard that they have had pretty bad live production though, maybe that was just a phase?

Their more recent live recordings sound all right, don't know if that carries over to performance

It's understandable the live production isn't as good as when they play at home, but it wasn't "bad" when I saw them. But I can say, Kyo's voice singing this album was totally on the money. And some of the weaker songs I thought were on this I actually love just as much as the others because I heard the live versions.

The Dir en grey page of tvtropes has some very funny entries.
Macabre saw their transition from seemingly random Alternative Rock to full-on Alternative Metal, a trend they continued up until Kisou
Six Ugly has the band ditching their Kuroyume influences in favor of a harsh, noisy, Americanized Nu Metal sound.
Vulgar saw the heavy addition of Gratuitous English lyrics and slight Harsh Noise influences to the band's sound.
Withering to Death saw the beginning of Kyo's insane screaming, as well as some mathcore and Death Metal influences.
Marrow Of A Bone was mostly noisy Deathcore with Indecipherable Lyrics and trashy musicianship, and is seen by some fans as a landmark of the band's Stylistic Suck phase.
UROBOROS ditched the insane tempos and garbage-level musicianship for slower, dirge-like songs and massive, technical compositions akin to Opeth and Meshuggah.
Dum Spiro Spero was basically UROBOROS musicianship dialed Up to Eleven with the inclusion of arrythmic beats and brutal breakdowns. The Harsh Noise influences from Withering To Death, as well as the louder bass of the older albums, returned with a vengeance. This continued with The Unraveling mini-album.
Arche brought back the randomness of the first album, as well as adding influences from Kyo's other band, Sukekiyo, and influences from other styles the band has not touched before. Though it could be best described as Death Metal with clean vocals.

Some ideas are sorta spot-on, even if put out in the worst way possible.
|
| |
Yea some of them are pretty accurate, but some are abysmally off target. Such as another entry saying that Withering to death. popularized deathcore and Marrow of a Bone doing the same for technical death metal.

I always thought the album cover was some kind of sea plant, but it's apparently a decapitated, pregnant torso with roots growing out of it.
