this one resonated with me off the bat, but yea i think most people tend to prefer Dragging...

it certainly has a broader appeal

Dragging ended up not hitting me as hard as I expected it to after the first couple listens, it’s excellent but I found myself wishing for more than just random guitar strumming most of the time. This album has more atmosphere to it and feels even more emotionally devastating. The last track might end up holding it back for me though, so far I’m not getting much out of it, it just seems like a very rote drone/ambient track.

agree with you about everything except the last track. i love that airy nebulous drone bullshit. as for how well it works in the collective context of the lp? hmm yea i could see how it could be perceived as anti-climactic or ineffectual or w/e.

It’s probably just a personal thing, I get very little out of pure drone stuff, it’s probably a fine enough example of the style.

"Made of Air" is like such a chilling window into her past work & that haunting echoey vibe her more "tone/texture"-forward music exhibits.

i like how the brevity of the new one forces you to focus on every sound. album feels like it's 40 minutes

I’m seeing a lot of people pissed off about the brevity of the new one. I don’t get it, just take it for what it is, y’know?

in the p4k interview she addresses that and curtly states "this is the complete idea." it's offensive for people to say they feel shortchanged, grouper doesn't release consumer products

Yeah, I mean she probably could have called it an EP but in this day and age the distinction doesn’t really many anything and there are a lot of people who (wrongly) believe that EPs are inherently lesser or less complete works than albums and hence might have passed it over so I can see why she marketed it as an album.

Evocative my ass. It looks like a shag rug on top of another shag rug rendered in black and white
