A maybe silly statement to make, but I think building the patience to listen to Swans' last trilogy of albums has helped me develop more patience for this breed of noisy jazz

TIL: there is a John Coltrane documentary with Bill Clinton in it. https://youtu.be/MXKPONrVt3c

Man. Had no idea Coltrane could get this dissonant and off-key. It was fascinating for the first I'd say 115-20 minutes, but the pure dissonance wore off on me after a while.
The highlight has to be McCoy's amazing solo at the about 30-minute mark.

The section with the Tchicai solo is soooooo nice, oh.
As is the Shepp solo part.
But I guess it's the ensemble stuff in between that makes it all work.

4th spin today, 5th in two days. This is kind of super mega addictive oh.
I never knew I was one for free jazz, but when it's all acoustic like this, oh boy is it amazing.

Wonderful record. That drum/bass/piano backbone is to die for. And the way it's structured with the ensemble and solo stuff alternating. π
