I like to call them progressive ska but they really aren't ska. They do the whole downbeat strumming thing here and there and use horns but it really doesn't adhere to the generic ska sound.

it's also not like it's been very apparent on this and the last LP

I'd include Battle as well. Hell, Resignation has like what.. One ska song?

They do use ska timing fairly often though. The only thing that really makes ska ska is the timing, so even if they do go pretty

far beyond, they do play ska. I'd list them as one of the fringe bands though. Which are really the only ones that keep my

attention nowadays.

I assume by timing you mean hitting chords on the downbeat. The thing is that they really don't use a lot of chords that you'd find in normal ska nor do they really have that upbeat sort of vibe or up tempo that ska has.

Sure, it's just that they lack a lot of the "trademark" sound. I mean if I compare this to SkaOS - that's a wholly different ballgame.

I think if their first two garbage records and Progress didn't exist, they wouldn't even be called a ska band. The ska influence is so minor on their past four records that it might as well not really be brought up

Ska is about as dead as Black Metal.

There's a cool Australian band called The Bennies that play "Psychedelic Reggae Ska Doom Metal Punk Rock From Hell". Check 'em out.

Sounds like one of those really dumb self-classifications but I'm willing to check it out 'cause OZ has some good punk shit going on.

It's less a self-classification as much as a humourous summary (fittingly, it's their Facebook summary). Having said that, they do have a fairly unique sound.
