So, what did you think of the demo versions with the extra parts and no "Crying Alien" vocals?

One of the most unique things about the “Focus” recording are your own vocals, which were produced by a Digitech Vocalist controlled with a keyboard. How did the idea for this come about?

"I was at the time struggling with our record having just raw vocals and I began exploring some melodic type of voice to be a part of our sound. I tried singing without the effect but it didn’t have the edge and otherworldly quality I was looking to capture. When I stumbled upon the Vocalist, I found a patch that with a little editing was perfect. It was computer generated yet sounded emotional, like a crying alien."

Lol I like how you didn't even response to him and just post the quote to shut him up.

I think the robot voice added to the uniqueness to the album and I wouldn't have them taken out.

No problem. My friend claims to have even older demos that he is going to hook me up with. We'll see, but if I do get them then I'll e-mail those too.

As for the album being better. I agree in some ways, but I like the rawness and extra parts on the demo versions. This Message Edited On 06.04.08

I don't know. I never looked for them. I'll find out where they came from if he actually has them.

Edit: Just for the hell of it I searched for these three words on Google: cynic demo torrent

Quite a few links came up so it doesn't look like they're hard to find. This Message Edited On 06.04.08

I'm listening to this disc right now. When is the new one due out? That thing is certain not to disappoint. Well, it better not. lol. When I hit the end of this disc, I'll toss on the first 'Aghora' album. In my book, both records are of equal stature and fans of Cynic couldn't ask for a better follow-up project, than what's evidenced on Aghora's first. I personally can't picture any group featuring both Sean Malone and Sean Reinert to be sub-par. They're gunna elevate the level of play of whomever they're aligned with....But, one thing I don't think I've ever noticed before this is that one of these Cynic tracks features a small cameo by a female vocalist. Does anyone know if that's Danishta Rivero? 'Cause if it is then maybe they had the idea for Aghora whilst doing the Cynic thang.

Had to bump the rating up. I just listened to this for the first time in a couple of months and I like it much more than I originally did.

I could possibly see me upping ths to a 4.5, but thats a pretty big jump considering I originally had this at 3/5.

But yeah, i love this now. All the little jazzy breakdowns and fills are sex.

I'll listen a couple of more times. I might start to like it even more, but its going to have to wait until I'm done listening to Sagas.

I didn't care too much for some of the samples I've heard from this band. :/

You should probably still try it out. I didnt like that much at first either (neither did bodominflames apparently). It might grow on you if you listen to it a couple of times.
