Honestly, the more I listen to this album the more I like it. Like, how big of a balls you gotta have to, after creating full proggresive rock album, just put some k-pop styled song at the end?

"Later in 2018 the band decamped to continue writing their third album."

from their Wikipedia page, so hopefully they're well along into recording at this point

Just discovered this band. Last Temple showed tons of potential, but it all sounded pretty samey to me. This album is awesome, tons of variety and the production is masterful. The singer sounds a lot better on this one too.

Pikazilla First Temple is a great album too! I just really like how they evolved with this album. My opinions are gonna change though, this band is still so new to me.

The Mars Volta but with no song structure. Still, cool ideas at points

mauerbauertraurigkeit is still one of my fav ballads of 2010s tho. Try to tell me this song is poorly structured

Happy Days is literally verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, solo, reprise verse, reprise chorus, how is that 'no song structure' (also it absolutely bangs)

Okay you got me there, Mauerbauertraurigkeit is pretty sweet.

And when I'm talking about a lack of structure, it's not the entirety of the album, but the first half for sure. And I guess I don't mean song structure (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.) as much as the general construction of the songs. There's all sorts of sounds and ideas being thrown around but there's no foundation to what's happening i.e. lots going on but nothing really being said. My least favorite kind of metal is like this, where it's just filled with mindless, constant shredding that attempts to make the song seem more complex but just results in mediocre songwriting.

The best efforts of The Mars Volta (an obvious influence), despite how wild and bombastic they were, had an underlying structure pulling it all together, and it takes real talent to successfully execute that type of sound. Their less-than-stellar efforts, like Amputechture, were when they fell prey to the exact problem this album has.

Well, if you mean that album structure is crazy I can agree. It gets even creazier if you read into the concept. Honestly, somehow it works for me but it's hard to not see how chaotic at times the album is. I still can't get over the kpop song at the end lmao.

I still do feel though the overall sound of it is relatively consistent. Quite unique production plays a huge role in it. Another part is craziness itself, it somehow feels natural. It was supposed to be chaotic, surprise you with each song. It builds up gradually (and peaks at closer and Dinosaur Boss Battle) so it's a nice (although steep) curve. Additionally, I don't think they go necessairly crazy within a single song. You might be musically shocked when you finish one song and jump to another one, but they don't go into "mindless, constant shredding that attempts to make the song seem more complex".

Take title track for example, it not only holds up well in the context of the album but also as a standalone release.

But of course, each to their own

The ending track is j-pop tho :DDD

But yeah, it really does come down to a matter of personal preference. I guess "mindless metal shredding" is a poor comparison but it got my point across.

It's been a while since I've had a full listen so I'll probably give it another spin with some of your points in mind.

Any case, they're recording new album so if this won't take your heart by storm you can just wait till they get the new one out. They were tracking bass right before covid started
