for me it probably goes:
neon bible > funeral = reflecktor (with funeral maybe having a slight edge) > suburbs
people calling this tepid, uninspired, pretentious, etc., should really examine the album more closely. sure it all sounds a little homogeneous at first - if only because of its production - but repeat listens make tracks easily distinguishable, all the little nuances both lyrical and musical start to stand out more, some of which the listener completely missed upon first glance; the themes the album presents start to become apparent and seem very much in-line with the arcade fire we know and love; it becomes easier to listen to when starting in the second half and looping back to the first, offering a better understanding of how the album works.

So much truth in that comment gyro. The second disc especially is some of the best music the band has made and there is such depth to the songs.

But City with no children sucks badly bro. so why would it be on the tracklist.
altho having any of their other albums over Funeral is just plein stupid. It's clearly their best work to date. So either you guys didnt listen to much to Funeral or you just want to appear all hip.

My faves from Suburbs are Sprawl II (obvs), suburban war, half light II, we used to wait, t/t, deep blue. You?
Agreed with Funeral >>> everything else.
What are you fave tracks on this? I've only spun it twice in full but at this stage I'd go afterlife, normal person, its never over and supersymmetry.

Its never over and Awful sound are both 5's for me and are the first tracks that really reached funeral quality in a long time. You already know and Afterlife are epics too. Well the whole album is tbh

Oh yeah Awful Sound is sweet as well, and the harmonies at the end of It's Never Over are gorgeous. In fact, the whole second disc is fucking amazing, even if the first is a little inconsistent for my liking at this stage.

yeah true. CD 2 is better than anything since Funeral imo. Really great stuff. CD 1 is a bit inconsistent you're right. Reminds me a bit of the flaws they made with "The Suburbs"

Agreed with all of that. This really deserves a higher rating than 3.8 though IMO
