Meh. Tbh everything you say about the production of Loveless is true of this.

my main gripe with Loveless is how condensed and narrow it sounds. it’s the opposite of an expansive sound. to say this album has those qualities more than Loveless is just objectively wrong

maybe the reason that this sounds better than Loveless
is that the songs are better.
These would have worked across a range of prod styles, whereas most Loveless songs would be a write-off the instant you removed them from the aesthetic

there’s a ton of detail and effort spent in the mixing of this one, if the volume of everything wasn’t perfect the songs would lose that sense of larger than life intangibility that makes good shoegaze so interesting

I like this more than Loveless musically but Loveless is mastered so much better it's night and day. Loveless has a big soundstage, this one is just a brickwall sadly
