saw these guys at luna park in sydney last night. sound guy was pretty shit but apart from that they were super tight as usual. they played almost all of the songs not counting the filler off asymmetry. definitely recommend seeing them live if you get the chance. it's ridiculous how effortlessly kenny nails every note.

Do you mean almost all of the songs off this record? That would be awesome - I'm seeing them on Wednesday and I'm keen to hear just about every song off this album, plus a bunch from Sound Awake and a couple from Themata. Too bad my favourites from SA are Caudal and Umbra and lord knows they probably won't play them.

"it's ridiculous how effortlessly kenny nails every note."
Kenny allegedly has perfect pitch - not sure about the validity of that claim, but it wouldn't surprise me. I've never heard him hit a wrong note, though Drew Goddard once recounted playing Synops, where Kenny sang the entire song half a step up while the band played in the original key, even though he knew it was happening, he couldn't help it.

Meh he kinda forced the notes towards the end of Alpha imo but maybe he's one of those guys that are better live.

I haven't seen a Red Stripe ad in forever. Those used to make my day.

"I think its just funny how music can cause completely different reactions in people. The very reasons that Omaha has listed, that cause him not to enjoy this record, are some of the same reasons that I actually enjoy it."
I don't know if I mentioned it here, in my shout or on youtube, but I pretty much said this album takes everything I dug about their sound and shoves it in a corner and parades the stuff I have no emotional reaction to, much the same way as L'enfant Sauvage, Welcome Oblivion, Koloss, Parallax II, Atoms for Peace...

for koloss what would that be?

That is had none of the qualities of Meshuggah that I love. I prefer their thrashier and more atmospheric moments so songs like "Bleed", "Mind's Mirrors"-"In Death is Death", "Straws Pulled at Random", the entirety of Chaosphere are good representations of what I like. They slowed everything down and just played a lot shit that wasn't connecting with me at all.

that makes sense. i personally liked koloss a lot. i didn't like the new gojira or btbam despite liking their previous efforts so i have to agree there

Having perfect pitch doesn't always mean he can technically hit all the notes cleanly.

Gojira, it feels like they hit their peak with FMTS, scuffed their shoes a little with TWOAF and then full on fell down the stairs with that one. And I know many will disagree with me, but I feel BTBAM were at their best with Colors. It managed to be both metalcore and progressive without being overly annoying (for the most part).
Over time, I have cooled my rage towards to Koloss and I can understand why people dig it. I think I got pissed when I saw all of the drooling professional reviews.

Koloss is probably their second worst next to the debut but you have to admit Demiurge is freaking awesome.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny has perfect pitch. The DVD that came with this is fucking note for note the same, vocally.

when Karnivool toured with Fair to Midland a couple years ago, I got to see them in a tiny venue in WI and was standing right in front of Kenny.. he was spot on all night. i messed my pants several times that night at how perfect his voice was

He is indeed an immaculate vocalist (which may be the reason why KILL hates him).
