The production of the guitars and bass guitar is brilliance. Heavy and loud as shit.

I sometimes feel like I should take a point away due to cleanse the soul. That has to be their worst song, holy shit.

"...["Cleanse The Soul"] has to be their worst song, holy shit."
"Circle Of Beliefs", "Born Of Fire", "Consfearacy", "Black Serenade" or most of DIM, Repentless, or GHUA?

Cleanse the Soul could've been a pretty great track with a more Reign in Blood or Hell Awaits styled vocal delivery. I still at least appreciate it for giving some more speed to this album, though it does break up the flow after seven awesome Slayer tunes in a row.

Cleanse the soul sounds like something henneman pulled out of his ass last minute to get another song on the album. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if most of the album wasnt so brilliant.

The riffs on "Cleanse The Soul" are good, but the vocals and awful lyrics ruin it for me. The rest of the record Slays though.

all these years later and i'm not even sure why, but behind the crooked cross was one of the most important tracks involved with initiating me into extreme metal genres

Album Rating: 4.5
It has a very introductory feel to the song, probably due to the groove of the track.

Slayer in general was my introductory to extreme metal. They were my first thrash band, even before Metallica.
