A 3 it is. A strongly disappointing record considering there are some absolutely brilliant parts on it
and some of the worst music I've heard in 2013. Will probably up a review on some of the more negative
aspects.
Biggest annoyance: I hate the snare on nigh every track. It sits terrible in the mix.

Damn that's quite an indictment. To each his own I guess. What parts besides the snare do you hate?

first listen went so-so, but that was the same for "Sound Awake" as well and I can already feel some songs growing on me already
eidolon = song of the year

I agree. Eidolon is brilliant and easily my favorite track.
@ Mong123: The Refusal is convoluted and incoherent and easily among the worst tracks I've heard
this year. It sounds like a fun experimentation for the guys, but also awkwardly terrible on its own
and as a part of the record. I find a good part of Asymmetry to be contrived and not as naturally
flowing as Sound Awake. I was often not even aware of the shifts in time signatures because they
felt so damn natural. On Asymmetry, the calculated switch often irks me. Also, their inability to
use interludes well is more apparent here than on Sound Awake, with the title track being very
abrasive and Amusia just being a pointless intermission. I also think Kenny is really hit and miss
here. He has some genius melodies (hi Sky Machine), but he bores me to death sometimes with vocal
patterns that lead nowhere like a tumbleweed running circles in the Gobi desert.

@Zuzek I agree the snare is a little harsh, but I honestly don't mind the interludes. We Are and Eidolon are my favorites.

This can't be the worst album of the year that's why we have let live.

Agreed. That bridge has basically brightened my year.

This. At least half of the vocal melodies here could be picked up from where they are and thrown in at any point in any other song and you wouldn't notice the difference. It's fucking disappointing to say the least

I'm warming up to some of the songs on here. I still need to listen to the second half though. Overall it's very good, but not on the level of Sound Awake.
