What gyro said. To me this is just a thinly weaved tapestry of some cool sounds with mainly boring ambient music and samples. In both cases it lacks the depth and musicality of any of their other stuff. It could've been an ep and I would've appreciated it way more, but it still wouldn't touch anything from their turn of the century era with those lush synths and thicc textures

"its boards of canada but instead of bittersweet nostalgia its terrifying existential dread at the coming flames"
Funny that was always geogaddi to me

Hyperion: I can respect that take, but I don't attach any profound meaning like that to it - or at least, if it does exist, it doesn't affect me much.
Also, what anarchistfish said. Geogaddi is the album that comes to mind when I think existential dread
I don't hate or even dislike this album, I just think that outside of its lofty concept it doesn't bring much musicality to the table. Nothing is real is fantastic tho - it's one of the few moments that anchores me in remembering I am indeed listening to a boc album

I'm with Hype. I find this just as intoxicating and atmospheric as their older stuff, even if it's less dense or layered with samples. It's different, colder, more ambient and they pull it off very well. I slightly prefer the other three full-lengths though. Such a consistent group, would love a follow-up.

Didn't find it condescending. Been waiting 8 years for this to click though. Come to Dust always ruled
A lot of their music sounds like it could be cult themed but for me:
Geogaddi = warm dread
Music = cold dread (this one took a long while to click as a whole)
Harvest = chill vibes
Plus a selection of bangers from their EPs. Everything You do is a Balloon, Left Side Drive, all of In a Beautiful Place... EP. So good

see how you’re distinguishing the types of dread there? I’m with hype of this one being more ‘existential’ compared to the rest. the other ones don’t have that theme as strong as this one.

I see it, it just doesn't grab me at all, even compared to something like Selected Ambient Works 2

This is genuinely my favourite BOC album. I’m a fan of all of their output, but there’s something about the atmosphere on this one that is totally captivating to me.

Yeah I love the consistent, bleak atmosphere this has. Probably their most chill too, I especially love the final 5 songs. Would love if they made more music sometime….
