Potsy you seriously think Frankie Sinatra is the best song? That's fucked
|
| |
its the only song on the entire album that doesnt sound like an outdated rehash of Since I Left You with some super absurd features thrown into the mix.
|
| |
and yeah new Blood Orange is great
|
| |
Back to this though I guess I was in the minority that expected at least a little progression in the 17 gap between releases but this is basically just the same album 17 years too late.

i saw the fact it was going to be the same thing (sort of) coming, given that its been 17 years of hype for a record that has been infamous for all those years.

True but i guess they knew the fanbase would eat it up and experimenting too much risks alienating those who loved the first
New one i'm thinking is a weak 4 atm

this is really fantastic so far
frankie sinatras like 2nd or 3rd worst song so far honestly
also idk what people are saying about it dropping off in the second half, i mean it doesn't have as many electricity/frontier psychiatrist/whatever tracks on it but as a whole its just got such a fucking great atmosphere to it and all the textures are so well made

Honestly, I was expecting it to sound even more similar to Since I Left You than it did.
Like the psychedelic parts were honestly unexpected even if nothing else was really too surprising.

its nothing to do with the lack of "electricity/frontier psychiatrist/whatever" tracks, it has to do with the fact a lot of it is really scatterbrained and just generally kinda lame.

Weak 4 for sure, im hoping the average drops to 3.8 because thats the most accurate score imo.

I like it at a solid 4.0 honestly.

doesn't sound scatterbrained at all to me, the transitions are lacking hard compared to this album but all the tracks help to build a really consistent and vivid atmosphere

yeah 2nd or 3rd worst song if you like music that has been done literally 50000 times before
"True but i guess they knew the fanbase would eat it up and experimenting too much risks alienating those who loved the first"
so basically you endorse being a complacent musician? sounds boring to me.
"given that its been 17 years of hype for a record that has been infamous for all those years. "
do not see how this makes it a sure thing that the record was going to just be Since I Left You 2.0, BoC and portishead both didnt release albums for a long ass time and came back with stuff completely different than the rest of their discog. dont see your logic.
"also idk what people are saying about it dropping off in the second half, "
it doesnt drop off its just that once you get like 30 minutes in and realize that the entire album is just going to be dr. doolittle bullshit you lose interest.
"Like the psychedelic parts were honestly unexpected even if nothing else was really too surprising. "
i didnt find them unexpected, nor did i find them redeeming. the whole psychedelic indie rock beach boys worship thing is the most stale thing going on in the rock scene right now tbqh

nah man i wasn't endorsing it or whatever just saying that's probably why it sounds quite similar

Album Rating: 4.5
i guess the issue with you not seeing my logic is that you see it as a Since I Left You 2.0 and I really don't. i dunno. waidawd
|
| |
thats a much worse reason to make a similar album than just because you wanted to imo

pots frankie sinatra is literally just a standard electroswing track which is a genre where literally every artist and song sounds nearly identical, idk what you're seeing in it honestly

Caravan Palace are unique af for electro swing tbh

"i guess the issue with you not seeing my logic is that you see it as a Since I Left You 2.0 and I really don't. i dunno. waidawd"
no i just dont see your logic because i dont think 17 years of hype equates to intuiting than an album is going to be "the same thing (sort of)"
