it seems like rowan and i have the exact same opinions but about different albums. i actually think invented is an album of parts, each song standing on its own and many not being very good. whereas damage is more than the sum of its parts because every song fits together thematically, and the variety of styles means that every song has its place and contributes a lot to the flow of the album. in invented there werent enough upbeat songs but they got the balance perfect here. this album doesnt have any of jimmys best songs on it, but the fact its so consistent and everything is perfectly placed and necessary makes this their best album. maybe. its hard to rank their albums but id at least say this is in the top 4. there used to be "the three" jew albums that could never be touched (obvious which ones i mean), that they would never top and would go down as a classic three album streak, but i think a fourth has now joined the fray.
