"false, i use a condenser, this guy just doesnt know what hes doing. you dont need a stand to fix your mic. and if you know how to sing into a mic/set up your gains properly etc you dont need a pop shield."

Lol I remember the first time I recorded vocals. Get a pop screen, unless you're whispering sweet gypsy nothings like potatohead over here you'll notice there's quite a difference

I've been recording music since I was in grade 11 and was taught the do's and don'ts of mix use by one of the best recording studio owners in my town/my former guitar teacher, I know how to use my mic brah

A lot of the techniques I use I've created by just fucking around with my gear and not going "by the book", although it's easier to fuck around when you already know how to do things the most successful way, but when recording vocals they will sound a hell of a lot better if you use a pop screen unless you're recording loud vocals from across the room or something along those lines. And yeah making up tunings is the best, I rarely have my guitars in standard tuning it helps me think outside of the theory box

Also, I was never trying to say "oh I'm the better producer" I was just saying I've had someone who legit knows what they're doing show me the ropes. You should be proud of your own mixing, I thought your latest album sounded pretty darn good mix wise

From what I gathered the effect of a pop screen is pretty much dependant on what kinda mic you work with.

Also, I'm kinda on the gypsie's side here because fuck paying 20-100 bucks for a fucking stand when I can just jury-rig myself one made of stuff I have lying around anyway.

well it depends what sort of music you make. that approach works better for recording a Sudatsuga track than it does for recording an iNTRiKeT track.

It all depends on what you can get out of your equipment. And I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you don't necessarily need a mic as producer of electronic music anyway, there are gazillions of samples of every imaginable shit out there. Or you could probably just put some stuff together to your liking. (like that evol intent track which is apparently some sample of a dude singing manipulated so it sounds like a woman)

@Wolf - that may be true, but it's always better to record your own stuff. Some samples are great, but sometimes you have a vision in your head that you can only match if you record everything yourself.
