Not a band to stand still, Charlotte act HRVRD (formerly Harvard) do more than just refine their sound on 2nd LP 'From the Bird’s Cage'. While still guitar-driven, this atmospheric indie-rock LP is not as aggressive as their debut, with the quintet embracing their progressive - yet accessible - tendencies. Producer Brian McTernan does a fantastic job in highlighting the intricate & haunting soundscapes, as well as Jesse Clasen's soothing vocals. HRVRD are very comfortable with this comparatively lighter style, but it remains to be seen if the switch is ultimately for the best. Recommended Tracks: Cardboard Houses, Timid Scripts, Futurist & We Never Shut Up About You.

This album is so stripped down and restrained, but still comes off amazing. Pretty cool that it was produced by the same guy that did "On Letting Go", perfect match. And they're intense live, Jesse's insane.

It seems that Jesse dodges some of the harder singing or screaming parts. I've never respected that but he sounds really amazing besides that.
