Pomegranate is an amazing album. I wouldn't put it in the same category as this. I've never even heard this dude. But terrible lyrics turn me off from mainstream hip hop. If you don't listen to lyrics in hip hop, then youre not really a hip hop fan, and probably a big dumb stupid.

Here's an excerpt from The Story of My Life off of pomegranate which you should listen to:

I was born in a box car,

color-blind, pigeon toed, pock-marked.

Twisted figure, broken heart they'd fixed up with monkey parts.

[P.O.S.]

I was born in a four story roach motel,

with floor to ceiling agitations,

wooden blocks and basic distaste for anything else.

(Andy)

I was raised by a pack of wolves,

nursed in our nations capital.

Taught to hunt and gather food,

and howl at the moon in the reflecting pool.

(P.O.S.)

I was raised by a slow jam,

two grizzlies for a mother who cared,

six packs of ramen nostradamus paranoia affair.

(Andy)

I fell in love with the flim-flammer,

charming con-artist, sexy counterfeiter,

pretty grifter, hidden ace switch making quick fingers.

(P.O.S.)

I fell in love with the most beautiful vulture,

she picked away my flesh, I'm left with skeletons,

welcome warm and tearing through my shoulders.

(Andy)

And she gave birth to my only son,

a smoking gun,

blue eyed, black chip,

on the first warm day to end the ice age prospect.

(P.O.S.)

And she gave birth to a lion-cub,

it's followed me for years now,

I'm leaning by the A's so I don't peak (?)

I know it's chewing on my fingers while I sleep,

I know it's stupid but it keeps without a leash,

and I've been trying to set it loose,

it seems it's freedom stripping me,

so I treat it like what it is.

I lay these eggshells to remember to be careful.

What are U talking about Eagles? My music is the finest shit that every nigga should listen. Anways, I know some niggas here can't handle albums like Metropolis Pt 2, This Godless Endeavor and more shit like that.

You've made some valid points. I guess your taste in music is just superior and Astronautalis must be a "glittery vagina'd faggot." I concede.

Lyrics in hip hop are important, bad lyrics lead to a work that at the end becames a joke.

i think it's obvious that lyrics are important, just not the only reason to like or dislike an artist. A$AP Rocky obviously isn't heavy on the content side, but he's an awesome rapper in terms of delivery, alliteratives, etc. Whereas Astronautalis is more on the spoken word spectrum of things. This is why El-P is one of my favorite rappers - he combines both sides really well imo.

if you cant recognize the merits of flow/delivery, i dont know what to say -_-

okay so he has a competent flow.. that doesnt make this an excellent album by any means. in order to have an excellent project, you need more than a competent flow and passable production.

asap rocky is a rapper who has absolutely nothing to say. he stumbled into popularity by being an attractive person who copies/pastes other popular forms of rap, making a "unique" collage out of it.

also, lol @ alliteratives.

which is actually preference at that point. I think the production is top notch, delivery/punchlines are entertaining. some weak tracks, hence a 4. probably more like a 3.8

I dont think he's stumbled on anything. He's basically a way better version of lil wayne. if you just dont like this kind of music, that's fine. but let me ask, why is death grips good?

He's flow and delivery is ok, I've seen rappers with better flow and delivery than this guy. Production is not but it doesn't make a good album. Take as example and the album post clayman of in flames, they have a very good production but compared to their old shit are worse cuz their missing some key elements and the experimentation with nu metal and metalcore is not always the best.
