If a band has a 3.5 for their new album, you should only compare that to other albums from that same artist and not any other artist. This is because often other artists have completely different fanbases that may inflate/deflate the rating.

this album has 360 ratings there. A 3.3 average but thats solid. Theres a bunch of great albums that have hundreds or thousands of ratings there but only 4 ratings here if even.

I honestly only post here because the community is extremely relaxed, almost /mu/-like but not quite.



As for RYM, to quickly summarize other reasons why I don't like it:

1. people like this who rate things to a ridiculous degree. That community is plagued with people like this: http://rateyourmusic.com/~SamBolstad (read though his rating system. How the fuck does this guy even enjoy music?)

2. the fact that as you go back in time, the average rating always increases. I understand that there's classic albums in the past, but the fact that this community hates new music so much is actually insulting to me.

zxlkho you just have to take that shit into account. ratings should only be a guide anyway its not like I wont check out an album unless it has a 3.7 or higher. everyone knows newer albums have a lower score there its not an issue. and yea theres people with dumb rating systems here too look at anarchistfish.
