Because their debut single was creep and the vocals were a bit vedderish. It was also a time where there wasn’t such a tide of drek so direct comparisons were made with other bands of the same ilk

I remember being so disappointed by No. 4 when it came out (stupid release date, deepest winter), I tried to convince myself I loved it for a week then sulked for a month over it hardly playing it. After time...it's alright.
Shangri-La just arrived at the right time, they did the smart thing of releasing a summer album in June and I swear 'Dumb Love', 'Coma' and 'Hello It's Late' are three of their best.
