Sometimes Crimson is too technical for us human beings.

Ladies of the Road is definitely holding it down, yes

The quality of the songwriting overall earns this around 4.3, but the production and singing are a bit weak imo so that bumps it down a few notches. Still underrated.

Wait was it Greg Lake who sung in that album? that's fine for me...

Not Greg, it's Boz Burrell who sang only here and on Earthbound. I prefer him over Gordon Haskel tbh, and I quite like the production. My critiques are it can meander a bit, Ladies, and Gulls (fine song but it's a straight baroque classical song, so just feels a bit forced in).

Annoying isn't the right word, but those horns are just a bit much. Great song tho overall.

Production and singing here are good, but they're superior in the other classic KC albums.

Larks' vocals aren't superior to this though

Really? In Lark's Tongues the singer really showcases his range and has some really emotive parts, like Book of Saturday and Exiles. Also can't beat the chanting of Easy Money.

The guitar solo on Sailors Tale is so special. Similar guitar work on Larks but never quite as frantic.

Wetton was far too nasally on Larks, and the material on Islands didn't give Boz much room to really let loose

I didn't find Wetton to be nasally, he and/or Greg Lake are almost universally regarded as the best King Crimson singers, and maybe Belew.

Besides Ladies of the Road this is excellent all the way through. So underrated.

I bumped my rating slightly, and maybe will further in the future. Even tho I've heard this many times I'm still digesting parts of it. Just today The Letters grew on me and I liked it more than I ever did before.

That's an interesting instrumental. I hear Lark's Tongues t/t and maybe some Starless and Bible Black in it.

Larks I and Lament to be exact, they used to implement it into their improv pieces and Groon when playing live

Same went for Fallen Angel in 1972, which formulated from improvisation with Jamie Muir (see the Zoom Club 1972 recordings)
