no don't i thot u wer better than that. this generic and icky
|
| |
it's haphazard and incoherent as fuck
if you showed me this album and then showed me roads and autumn I'd be like no fucking way that's the same band
plus the whole theme of "hurr kentuckaaaaay coal miners and shit" theme is like "who thought that this was a good topic for a fucking black metal album?"

that last sentence is actually why i like this album
|
| |
Why, are you a grizzled coal miner from Kentucky that dislikes foreigners and shit?
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
i don't see any reason that the carnage and sorrow of the coal mining industry of early industrialization america, and the institutional method by which succeeding generations were basically indentured workers, couldn't provide the themes or emotions necessary to drive a strong black metal record
what IS a good topic for a black metal album? what constitutes a bad one?

dragons and permafrost

exactly, most metal topics are already indulgent as hell

Depends on the context. I don't care for my music being a historical portrait, if I want to know about history I'm gonna read up on it - music - IMO - is just not a good medium for that.
Plus there were supposedly also "nationalist"/patriot vibes on this which I really don't care for.

it wasn't a history lesson, that's a dumb strawman conclusion to make from what i said. the fact is, that history provides MANY scenarious in which themes similar to what are already used in black metal could be drawn from.
i HIGHLY doubt there were patriot vibes on this, i don't know where you got that, the entire thing is anti establishment
|
| |
That's what it sounded like to me. I honestly never got past the music to listen this enough to decipher the lyrics and since he usually doesn't publish them I didn't go through the effort of finding them.
I guess I'm skeptical but ultimately it would depend on how it's executed. Either way, even if this is lyrically good it's still a musical clusterfuck.
Also, anti establishment doesn't mean there can't be any (regional) patriotism vibes on this - I wasn't referring to a "fuck yeah America" type patriotism but more to one specifically about Kentucky. It would fit with the history of U.S. states trying to set themselves apart from other states and somesuch. Not saying this is necessarily the case here but one thing doesn't logically rule out the other.

it's not even about whether it is good lyrically. just that thematically there's no real reason to take issue with the source material
now the clusterfuck argument, that just comes down to personal preference :]
