This is great drumming, My dad always told me that Phil was the best drummer in the world, maybe he was right

Yes, what a career he's got. Bassman is Percy Jones, ex Soft Machine. He's also amazing. Try their entire album Unorthodox Behaviour for the least. Jazz rock is not for everybody, but album is easy to approach and to love.

Phil is in my top 10 drummers. i have a bunch of jazz rock drummers who are a tad in front of him technically.

I believe you, but for me the drummer only needs to
Make the time&groove right
And that’s the most difficult thing, isn’t it?

Yeah it's the basic formula, and he proves to be tight everytime for Genesis. He also excells in odd time signature and tempo shifting. i love to get the sensation that a drummer has 4 hands, four sticks and when they are tight and groovy as hell.

you will hate me but
but
check this out when you have 5:30 minutes to kill, I bet you'll love this tom-driven groove (and maybe you know it already as it should be quite famous).
Yes, it's that band!

I was absolutely sure you were talking about Toto. Good call, Sab. The man knows how to roll and groove. Never heard that song, it's beautiful. Jeff Porcaro rules. I'm digging Rosanna's drumming.

Nice, I'm happy you like it. 80s Toto, even! I suggest the song These Chains from the same album if you want another groove, this time driven by snare ghost notes (and a jaw-dropping climax in the bridge).
Sorry for the derailing the thread, I couldn't resist. As for Duke, I really like this album a lot, my only problem is that I'm not always fond of the more mellow moments. Great production too, killer drum sound. Duke Travels is fantastic.

I've just noticed now you replied to me, Sab :/
I can hear you about the more mellow moments. The first side of the album is flawless to me. ''Alone Tonight'' and ''Please Don't Ask'' are more of Phil Collins' love songs than pure Genesis songs, but i'm used to them because the album was released while my first girl friend called our relation a quit, so yes, I dig every songs in there. Duke's Travels was a good way to complete the last nearly perfect and very well balanced Genesis album.
As for Toto, ''These Chains'' sounds good with these ghost notes and that bridge indeed. I might listen to that album at some point.

Haha no worries Jethro, I'm glad you checked and liked. The album has quite a few gems, it's funny how certain editions of one of the songs has Jon Anderson doing a little scat singing in a bridge, but know that it's from the 80s and at times it sounds like Michael Jackson... then again, they did write songs for MJ (Human Nature, for example).
"the album was released while my first girl friend called our relation a quit, so yes, I dig every songs in there."
Ah, I see, I can't fault you on that reason. Curiously, I actually dig Heathaze. It sounds really great, the chorus is bombastic but still very dynamic. This album is yet another proof that production matters.

''Heathaze'' is awesome, it's so emotional, it gets me everytime. Collins is near from exaggerating in the chorus, but he's all right all the way. Phew ;)
If you have a link for that song including Jon Anderson, it would be cool. Listening to ''Human Nature'' atm, and it doesn't surprise me it comes from Toto, albeit it's converted to MJ style.
@Smaugman, yes ''Alone Tonight'' is the weakest point, but still, it's not half bad. Chorus suited by the organ is good. It's just another Collins attempt to do another pop hit.

it's not surprising, since he wrote ''Your Own Special Way'' which is similar in style.

No, they all participated equally for Duke. I think Banks composed most of the songs for The Lamb, except for the vocal lines and lyrics that came from Gabriel.
