Glad to help, I wish I could hear a finished version of From the Darkside but it seems these songs are long forgotten and lyrics ideas from the latter became I Don't Believe in Love.

If this album was released with half the songs missing, it'd still be leagues ahead of three.

Looks like this is their masterpiece to quite some people. Not to me, but it's definitely something unique. Love how all of their first 5 albums are unique

Album rocks.

But we all know what their magnum opus is. It's also one of the best heavy metal albums ever written.

They were like America's answer to Maiden on this, yeah. I often wonder what it must have felt like to truly come into your own and subsequently write something as spectacular as Rage for Order and have it go relatively unnoticed. Like the resolve of those guys to turn around and pump out [one of, I guess] the best metal album ever written is just insane.

Before I say this, know that I don't mean it as an indictment of FW. From what I've heard, they rule hard.

I remember hearing an interview with Doc Coyle talking about how angry he and his bandmates, as well as others they would tour with, would become when they think about the success that Lamb of God (for example) were having. They felt like they were making music comparable in quality, fellow road warriors etc. And at a point, you have to realize, those guys might just be better than us.

Or something like that. Did FW never break through because their music is just consistently less commercial? Did Queensryche (for example) "make it" by making a concerted effort to reach more people?

And that album is great, too. Arguably better than Empire.

I rescind my previous statement about it being arguably better than Empire after another listen.

Still good, though.

This album might be a 5 as well ... in a good mood for 5s lately lol. But this band stands the test of time

Jet City Woman and Silent Lucidity catapulted Queensryche to popularity through their music videos on MTV. Keep in mind, they were coming off the heels of the highly regarded Mindcrime record.

MTV was a critical medium at that time, especially for hard rock and heavy metal. Boy, have things changed.

But they had a successful formula that they followed, coupled with a little bit of luck, which made them a much bigger force than Fates Warning.

Yeah they definitely had the catchiest approach from the big three which helped them with exposure.

Ryche were always the least appealing of the big three to me though. Couldn't get into them to the same degree as the other two. I know titan I know, blasphemy!

Plus the other two have aged better over time.
