surprised nobody has mentioned Misha Mansoor's involvement on this yet. A large portion of the riffs sound like they
were written by him, and the sonic fidelity has been quite elevated over the last two by his production. He's turned a
band that I really couldn't stand into something that's fun to me for a listen or two. Big improvement IMO - the songs
actually have energy and momentum this time, instead of having every decent riff or idea be cut short by an odd-time
chugfest and never developed.
That's just my first impression, though... there are still a few too many odd-time chugs, but at least they have other stuff
going on on top of them to provide some foreground interest which was lacking in their previous releases. And they
actually manage to go through some songs without resorting to that chug, which I don't think they ever did previously...
but I can't remember since I found their previous albums so off-putting.
