It's hard for me not to admit this album is fresh.

Highlights: Without You, Off to the Races, Carmen, National Anthem, Born To Die

Blue Jeans is also beautiful, but there's certainly more than just those.

"Off to the Races" rules too. Also, while we're here, gotta put it out there and say I loved Conrad Tao's defense of this record - definitely made me look at it in a slightly different light.

I don't really like Off to the Races. Don't know why. Summertime Sadness rules though.

I like Off to the Races because its so different to the rest of the album.

The slow melodramatic parts to the breakdowns make me sing along to it constantly.

The amount of remixes she has for like each song is absolutely ridiculous. Such a hassle to find a real version in youtube. I'm loving this album more and more. Except most of the 2nd half still sucks.

Album rules, review rules. Some filler in the tracklisting here and there, but easily forgivable. (fwiw, I think Diet Mountain Dew follows right in line with the high from the first four songs)

Why no mention of Carmen? It's a painfully haunting song.

Anyway, my main concern from here is if she'll be able to add other dimensions to her sound and style in her further releases. I am very inclined to think that her aesthetics have been mostly exhausted...

This review reads like I'd imagine an Urban Outfitters foam finger would read: fuck you, I "get it".

I honestly do not see the appeal. I put my preconceived notions aside after a horrendous SNL performance, and all the news of her "image retooling" and gave it an honest go. There were a few cool moments, but she is nothing more than another product of a hype machine. Just do not "get it".

One of my favorite albums of all time. Haters are gonna hate... but if she keeps making masterpieces like 'Blue Jeans' and 'Off To The Races', they're not going to have much to hate on. I agree that she might repeat lyrics too much, but I think she does it intentionally as sort of an inside joke.
