This album is perfect for what it is trying to accomplish. But not perfect as compared to music as a whole. So fun to try and sing along to this.

All That's Left is seriously the catchiest song ever

For the more 'rock' side of this album, I think the T/t is the best.

idk, a lot of the songs here are really formulaic. That's not to say Identity Crisis isn't formulaic, but IC has that whole "youthful energy" thing going for it. This is the first Thrice album where they stopped being youthful and energetic and it is kind of hit-or-miss here. They perfect the mature sound on Vheissu (although that album has its own problems. but I digress).

You get awesome stuff like Cold Cash and Colder Hearts, the title track, and the closer, sure; but there's also Stare at the Sun and All That's Left. Both of these songs are Thrice's attempt to corner the Fuse market at the time. weak, generic pre-scene post-fugazi "alternative rock"

Whereas the missteps on Identity Crisis are much less prominent, and the songs are much shorter on IC.

I don't know, I'd rather hear those kind of songs on the radio than the normal stuff that hits the rock stations, but that might be a different point entirely, so...

I would agree that All That's Left and Stare at the Sun are 'weaker' tracks, but I still really like them, and I think they fit well on the album. The bass line/chorus guitar part on Stare at the Sun, tho... C'mon, that's a pretty sweet riff.

I prefer The Abolition of Man to the last song. I always thought it had a weak first couple of minutes, but the last half almost makes up for it. I really like that outro, especially the little instrumental ending.

ryus I'm honestly surprised you didn't like Illusion of Safety. that album is a lot more dynamic than most other thrice stuff.
