It reminds me of tool more than anything else. I don't think I've ever heard Hinder.

I am really digging this album. People are too quick to lump this as radio rock but for the most part its too dark to be anything reminiscent of mainstream rock. There is no denying a big emphasis on chorus but it really works with the mood. I guess it's not everybody's thing, but personally I am not into any of the radio rock bands they are getting categorized with here and feel they share greater similarities with Deftones and Tool.
Moving away from that I have found that 'revenge' has gone from one of my least favourite tracks from the first few listens to my favourite behind 'the meddler.'
I won't disregard the opinion of anyone else but I really do like this album.

Chevelle is such a peculiar band. I started listening to them and almost strictly mainstream hard rock when I was 13 (19 now) and as time went on my musical taste has become far more varied, but they have never become stale to me. There's something about their blend of heaviness and melody that none of their contemporaries did properly, and they always build upon their sound just enough to keep each new album fresh.

Sci-fi Crimes is imo their best album because by consistency (the only slightly boring track is a new momentum) and it flows really well together.

Every song on this album ranges from good to great, but it doesn't flow quite as well as previous albums. Face to the floor is an awesome song, but it doesnt open the album up like Sleep Apnea, Antisaint, Family System, and the Clincher did so well. Clones is an awesome song, mostly thanks to that extremely dense and noisy guitar work, but it doesnt really make the album go out with a bang.

Basically, as a collection of songs these are some of the best songs the band has written by far, but as a cohesive album that flows from song to song it falls slightly short of the rest of their albums.

This is a well-written rendition of my experience with them, I'm very very into progressive rock/metal now, whereas before I was a mainstream rock junkie. They don't get old...haha my only long-term relationship in terms of bands.

This is their worst since their debut. "Face to the Floor" sucks....but "Envy" is one of their best songs.

I've been getting tired of their "it's like every other alt-metal band, but with better vocals" schtick for years now.

No! Not This Type of Thinking. This Type of Thinking is greater than Sci-Fi Crimes.

At least that's what I think.

I'll say it's better, but I think it has too many filler tracks towards the end.

Maybe I should listen to this again... I feel my rating will slip to a 3 if this album doesn't start sticking with me.

This is definitely a great, well written record, but I'm not quite sure that it's a 4 yet, or that I could round this up to a 4. 3.5/5 for now. I'll see if this grows with more listens.
