Great album? No. I do like Machine Head but I have had the same nagging feeling with every album they have "constructed" since Burn My Eyes or possibly The More Things Change. The music sounds forced and lacking in soul, regardless of whether you "connect" with Rob Flynn's emotional lyrics. They have undeniably written some great songs (with only one great album...) over the years and this album is no exception. I'm just not feeling it with this one and just like The Blackening, whilst technically good, is just far too clinical and heartless for me.

^ You've got the point. The album's quite underwhelming imo.

review is written well enough. Just disagree with the reviewer, this is was a brilliant piece of work, by a band about as consistent(in terms of quality) as anything out there. 3.0???NOOOO.....oh these things are determined by personal taste than anything else i guess.

This is a lot better than The Blackening IMO. But that album was still really good.

A lot of fans of the band strongly criticized this latest album upon its release, perhaps because of the radical departure from the structure of its predecessor-but i am one of the few that prefer this album. The operatic vocals of the opening and closing tracks are what stand out the most on first listen, but a few more times and you begin to realise the band have also used less solos and more structural songwriting, so that each song never bites off more than it can chew.

There are quite a few that like it, Machine Head have their moments where they are truly brilliant, but its few and far between.
