I don't get some of you guys... Apparently this site either loves this album or hates it. The half that hates it talks like they come from /mu/ though, so I'm disregarding their opinions.

Anyway, instrumentally it's better than anything they've put out, and their tone on this isn't better or worse... just different. They're more melancholy/tired sounding/feeling, which goes with a lot of the lyrics well.

I for one found Condolences to be kinda beautiful, if a little cliched. Cliche isn't necessarily a bad thing, and the hopeful, idealistic lyrics may be cliched, but cliches are cliches in the first place because there is a certain power behind them. If there wasn't, they would never be overused, and hence never become cliches.

/rant

So yeah, tl;dr: different tone, better instrumentally, slightly worse lyrically. I liked the tone of ...To The Beat a lot better, but this fits it's purpose, and it's a damn good album.

i don't see how condolences would make anyone laugh,

maybe cringe at the awkward cliche lyrics but thats about it.

there's nothing funny about it.

Agreed that this gets better with more listens and once you know the lyrics. However, it flows

horribly. Except for Condolences into Home Away from Here. Blasting this while biking/driving gets

me pumped.
