I liked the review review.

I would expect someone as "intellectual" and "talented" as Lady Gaga
yeah I really think you are looking for the wrong things in this music
|
| |
serious this over intellectualising at legth when it comes to criticising her is 1000% dumber than anything she has ever said in public or otherwise
in her own way in her naivety Gaga is beyond all you precious little unique thinkers
|
| |
I have reached that figure through a rigorous mathematical process I won't try and explain because none of you will understand it
just like this album

it's not about beyond or not beyond,

Great review but what do you expect from a bunch of kids as fans ??? Most of them started listening to music from the Lady Gaga era (2009) some even this year(2011) and they all fell for her gimmicks and tricks and eventually fell completely in love with her. Some go to her concerts and see all the gimmicks and tricks she does on stage. So what ??To them this album is revolutionary, what do they care ?? Like Eminem said on the Track syllables "It's not about Lyrics anymore, It's about a hot beat and a catchy hook". Of course kids are gonna love this, what do they know about lyrics ?? This album is meshed up with Rock, techno, Pop, and Dance beats, come on that's more than enough for an album to be classic lyrics can go to hell. I downloaded this album due to the massive hype, naturally am not her fan but i like hits like Poker face, bad romance (Despite the controversial video), Telephone is my best. I left this album on replay throughout the whole night to all see if it will grow on me but only one song did "Edge of Glory". I noticed something, The whole album was too repulsive, she kept on repeating things, the whole album circles around one subject matter "She wants us to be free" but i was like, Can't you talk about something else or what, the production wasn't even that great. Some tracks like Judas, Born this way, Hair were so overproduced that they turned out to be noisy. The whole album follows the same pattern, they start slowly with the piano and later goes hard when the rock strings and Guitars comes in and breaks down for at least 30seconds for the bridge then the beat is allowed to play for another 30seconds to 1minute then the chorus comes in again and eventually nothing interesting is said and a whole track is gone...hmmm..Not too long i started deleting tracks and made a playlist of songs i like and sadly only 3 made my cut (Edge of glory, Schibe, Government hooker). She claimed it was going to be the "Best of the decade" but this falls short of even the best of 2011. Sad for her. I wonder how many artist make such overstretched claims. Her fans still love the album though, good or bad, they don't care. One posted a comment saying "Best album in history" and i started to imagine how old he/she was, probably 10-13years !!!

"It's been covered a thousand different times by a thousand different shock stars
IE
Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper(I actually like him), Pink, among others."
I fail to understand how Marilyn Manson ever promoted being an individual rather than a gimmick.

they both made some really good music

@mynameischan
lol meatplow and liberi just because you think this is a decent album doesn't mean that everyone else is faking when they say it's not good
Nah it is more the fact that you reviewed this the same day it leaked (my time zone), it is considerably long for a pop album (especially the special edition), you spend over 500 words before (although it might be fair to argue over 800 words) starting to actually talk about the album itself, you don't mention any of the songs I personally have found most enjoyable. And the review (and the comments within this thread) seems to largely reflect the singles and opinion I've seen thrown about prior to the album leaking. I mean your anthem comment, though totally applicable to the singles doesn't really carry throughout the entire album from my view.
So really I don't feel your review justifies its rating, it forces a narrative that I don't really agree with and I feel your conclusions, though perhaps interesting, are just speculation at best. And I haven't really seen a compelling argument in this review thread as for why this is a bad album, other than the fact that the singles that were released prior to the album release were on the whole, very weak. Which I agree with (though I'm quite partial to Judas).
Different tune. Same message. That is a bland concept. It's been covered a thousand different times by a thousand different shock stars
The concept doesn't really matter to me, nor does the lyrical content. I can respect if lyrical content does factor in to your view; but like meatplow I don't really think this is the right place to look for that sort of thing.

No, I think that this is an album where the lyrics and concept do matter. Gaga was never much of an "it's all about the music" artist - her entire persona and her whole "message" is, to me, inseparable from the product she's putting out.
It's worth mentioning that the concept to the album, if there even is one, ought to be admirable or at least tolerable. In its current form, it's almost offensively blunt and therefore ineffective.

"The Other 98%"
From what I've read, it's mainly Madonna and Christina Aguilera but I could be wrong.

Fair enough. Though I do think there is pretty heavy divergance between those that give a toss about her persona/concept/image etc and those that don't.
There is nothing inherently wrong with either point of view, I just simply buy into the argument that she has some talent to her (beyond what we see among most pop artists today. But I don't buy into the argument that her persona/image matters much if at all in digesting the album.

I think the main reason why that seems to be coming into play is because the pop world, more than any other genre, relies more heavily on an image/persona. I don't see how we should debating the merits of an album based on the artist in questions eclectic nature, but I can see how it gets bought up. Just not why

I've yet to read a proper argument as to why this is a bad album. Only one review I've read so far directly criticises the music, but just says it's "bad" because it sounds like "what people who have never been to Ibiza think Ibiza sounds like". Or something.
I'll write a review of this soon. A good review.
