but there's the sense of "there's something going on here but i'm too lazy to listen more and find out" rather than "this album sucks"

It's one of my favourite albums this year. =)
Always applaud genuinely distinctive music.
And no way is 'Fun Powder Plot' Wild Beasts' best song. =O
It's not even the best off of Two Dancers.

Yeah, I figure this is your first Wild Beasts album.
If you thought the vocals were annoying on this album; their first will drive you insane.
But really; you don't pick up a Wild Beasts album, have a listen and say "Oh, this is nice" =)
It's very... I can't even explain it.

I hated Two Dancers for the first 5 or so listens, they are a band that lure you in slowly. Either that or you could hate his vocals for eternity, idk.

For clarification, Two Dancers was the first Wild Beasts album I heard.

First I heard was Limbo, Panto. So Two Dancers was a cake walk. =P
Honestly; it's about forcing yourself to listen to it; it's finding the magic hidden inside. It's like a treasure chest with gold, candy and chocolate locked inside; waiting to be opened. =P
