We all want another 'Sufferer'. We also want to become millionaires without having to do anything.

Good way to put it Davey. And after having heard it a few more times, it's starting to grow on me. I still hate Help is on the Way, but most of the other songs are good. Tim's lyrics really make this album, I just wish his vocals didn't sound so damn bored.

Decided that I like this more than Appeal to Reason. It might not be a return to the greatness of RPM/Siren Song/Sufferer but I've lowered my expectations for Rise Against and this meets them well enough.

I have to say, on the note of a comment TTB said earlier about "Disparity by Design" and "Kotov Syndrome", I can't help but notice similarities in the chorus of "This is Letting Go" to that of "Give it All". I've noticed it since the first time I heard it. Perhaps it's just me, does anyone else notice it?
The melody sounds the same to me, for "We give it all, now this is the reason why I sing! So give it all, and it's these reasons that belong to me!"
Ex: where he says "This isn't giving up, no this is letting go" would be where he sings "This is the reason why I sing!"
I don't know, probably over-analyzing things :P
Either way, this track is growing on me quick.
EDIT: I also suck at explaining things, so sorry if I confused all of you XD

I know what you mean about Tim's vocals Daniel, but I wouldn't call them bored. They have been mixed to the forefront on the past 2 albums & if anything, his voice just doesn't have the subtleties to handle it over a full album. I don't think anyone has ever said (himself included) that he has the greatest voice in the world. I know you're more talking about passion, etc... but I think it's sufficiently there.
Lucidity, on those lowered expectations, maybe 'Appeal To Reason' deserves another listen from you now!?
Brewersboy, initially I would have said you were crazy since 'Give It All' is heavier than 'This Is Letting Go'. I can see what you're hearing, but yeah, I think you're over-analyzing a little. Nice pick-up though.

well, in past albums, he was pouring his heart out into each note. Now he's singing really laid-back. Not necessarily bored, but it makes for a boringer listen.

The only thing I can think of is that he is allowing the lyrics to do all the talking.
And again, the wonderful word that is "boringer" is relative to their phenomenal past.

This album debuted at #2 on the Australian albums chart.
Beaten to the top by f*cken Glee. Even more reason to hate that god damn show.

I see what you mean Davey. His lyrics have always been fantastic, and there's no exception here. It's just that I tend to listen to music more than words, and generally rate based more on music. And after having heard the album about seven times in my car I don't think this rating will be going up.

The vocals aren't as powerful as they were on Sufferer and the Witness.

Haha I don't know daniel, I tend to jam out pretty hard actually when I'm cruising around with this okay not the greatest headbanging music but I can get really into it! I always go to "Satellite", "Survivor Guilt", and "Make it Stop" when I'm driving. Like poetry in motion.
I get what you're saying though about the way he is singing. I believe he still has the intensity he used to in a couple songs ("A Gentleman's Coup", "Disparity by Design" for example), and I certainly don't mind the other songs. This is probably my 3rd favorite album, behind Siren Song and Sufferer.
Oh well, to each his own.

@ Davey: Yeah, the chorus is my favorite part of that song.
By the way, I just have to say that the first minute and 40 seconds of this video is the most epic intro to a song I have ever heard. Hands down.

This is what I love about this guys, they are so passionate, and even though they changed their
sound, they managed to stay true to themselves and to the things and values they believe in.
Their songs are inspiring, and full of energy, and that is what I like about this band, and this is
why they are my favorite band.
