it's like Michael Bolton and Kenny G had a musically gifted, black-rimmed glasses wearing hipster folk-loving baby.

ATTN Reviewer: I'm interested, how much Destroyer had you listened to prior to this coming out

nice

i like this album. but i do have some complaints with it. though i dig the flow of the album and how every track has that same 80s feel to it, I really miss his old sound. the richly textured, more indie pop arrangements, they had more life to them. those signature warbling vibrato lead guitar lines and the really intensely poetic lyrics. there are hints of that here but he mostly trades it for a subtle, delicate minimalism. and the lyrics, i read in an interview on p4k that he just straight up "gave up" on being a lyricist and focused on being a vocalist and that he wrote the vocal melodies while like making a sandwich or some shit. it definitely shows on some tracks.

I really though Bay of Pigs was just kinda of like a between album experiment but clearly this is his new style. and im all for re-invention and this still feels like destroyer, his incredible songwriting abilities still shine through. but i really miss the old style

yeah I read that p4k article too but he said that's how he's always kinda wrote songs. I don't think he's lost anything as a lyricist at all on this. The style thing I can get, but I think for what he was going for this sound works perfectly.

I like some of the tracks on here, but I don't get the hype of the album. I find it all around boring or just too bizarre. I find that there's some great tracks mixed in with boring boring songs.

Man, Kaputt could put me to sleep. Other than Chinatown and Savage Night at the Opera, I just don't care for it.
