Also I love how sputnik users act all hipster on the site but as soon as they show a picture or video of themselves there's always a Slipknot t-shirt or poster somewhere in there.

Slipknot are the only 'gateway' band I still like and I still consider them to be my favourite band.
But they released their last album 3 years ago so I don't really know how I'd react to them if I only first heard their music now since I've spread my wings quite a bit.

They're obviously a talented band, they just misuse it completely. Joey Jordison can't play a straight beat without throwing in 546 random fills to sound "tech" and their guitarists brag about how they can play Yngwie Malmsteen solos note-for-note but play binary code meathead riffs instead

Yeah I read in an interview that they considered the album/tour cycle to be dead.
And as for Slipknot, Corey's vocals irritate me quite a lot now and practically all their songs are verse-chorus etc except for a few on their self titled, which is pretty much the only thing I listen back to occasionally at the moment.
