I actually love symphony. But all that really matters is the songwriting. This album featured much more integral compositions than ones on albums preceding and following it, where riffs were totally disjointed in most cases. Not that it bothered the listening experience, which is definitely rare.

Yeah, I won't deny that this record doesn't have the best guitar riffs they have done, but the elements do come together rather well.

Yeah, newer Dimmu has become famous for making no transitions between totally different riffs at all... this album is quite exceptional in that regard. Easier to listen to than PEM for sure

It's honestly the only reason most of these people dis this stuff. Add anything that "detracts" from the geetarz and it's automatically garbage. The closed minded lot.

I agree, but sometimes the orchestra element does ruin (or lessen) the impact of an album. It just depends on whether it's well-done or tacked on -- also, it depends on whether the orchestral elements are used as a crutch for generic sonwriting and subpar playing.

Perhaps, but how does one differentiate from covering up a drought of ideas or creativity from simply not "getting" what the artist was honestly trying to create.

Purists hate the name, but some of this is pretty generic/boring. I still like it though, this was my first black metal album so I'll always be attached
