I didn't read the 11 pages of comments, but this is a great review. Very well-written, and I agree completely. The only song here that interests me at all is "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation," in which I love the solo. Everything else is unmitigated ass, I can't figure out why everyone is offering the remnants of their virginity to the band.

did any1 but me notice that the solo for dying in your arms is the same as the outro2 bark at the moon by ozzy?

Dude, the vocals just need getting used to. The music is what you acually listen to.
I am going to strongly disagree with what you said about Gunshot. The song kicks so much azz!! you can't say the solo is "ok"! ITS ONE OF THE GREATEST SOLOS EVER!!! *Gawd*
The only song which wasn't up to standerd for me was Like Light To Flies. The guitar is quite weak. The Vocals are a bit "winey" in the chorus and it isn't the best Trivium song.
I'll just make it easy and state my favorate songs.
1st: Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation
2nd: Rain
3rd: Sufficating Light (Not Sight You donkey!)

Im ganna agree with Shadowsfallen. This album really isnt that good, minus the one song, Pull Harder on the Strings etc etc.... the other songs just had lame riffs.

BAHAHAHAHA
Fanboy status officially revoked.

what are some good songs on this album, ive only heard "a gunshot to the head of trepridation" with no vocal in a cd that came with a mag.

Well, with most bands I try not to be a fanboy... but with Trivium it is different.
When reading reviews that showcase negative aspects of an album, I usually see where the author is coming from and sometimes tend to agree.
But, once again this album is different. I understand that some people may not like this album, but in no way can I see it as 'generic' or 'bland'. I see this album as pointing the way forwards for metal, especially with young musicians.
The guitar work, I believe is unparalleled in this style of music, and no matter how hard I try I cannot see any resemblance in this music to any other band.
I really disagree with you ShadowsFallen, but I think you did write a good review.

i dont agree with ur rating
but r right that its VERY repitive
But u missed a A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation is a pretty good song
Matt Heafy is amazing in RoadRunner United too

Bringbacktheshred, I can definately see this being very very bland. They harmonize a lot of riffs, much like almost every NWOAHM band I can think of, the songs sound the same, very very repetitive. And yes they are very talented musicians (just not live, they are very sloppy, and Matt can't scream) who just need to work on their formula and they will be great. They have potential.

I don't like Heafys screaming voice at all which makes the chrouses the best parts of al the songs on here pretty much (not including the solos) I read this interview that Total Guitar did with Cory and Matt and Matt said that he'd be changing his voice in the next album to be more like the voice he adopts in the choruses of the songs. I don't know if hel actaully go throguh with cutting out the screaming altogether but i think this is step in the right direction. Personally i love this album even though im not really into stuff this heavy, and Matt and Cory are amazing guitarists for there age and i think trivium have loads of potential. My fave songs on ascendancy are departure and declaration.

messiah167, I think we can all hope that Matt's voice will change...and although I cant stand this album, I have a strong feeling that their next album will really show the guitarists mature and they will find their own style...and hopefully then they will appeal to me, because yes, they have great potential.

i rekon there first three albums might be similar to metallicas first three albums. Its like they wanted to make ember to inferno sound raw, which it is like Kill' Em All, then ascendancy was kinda there attempt at a ride the lightning and showed theyd matured from ember to inferno mayb the crusade will b there master of puppets. Nyway we'll have to wait and see what there next albums gunna be like.

This review doesn't deserve that many neg votes. Only if fanboys were more sensible...

I wouldn't really compare this album to the other stuff thats coming out of the NWOAHM. Their riffs do get a little repetitive but their harmonies are unique for their genre. They have that old school feel that is just refreshing these days unlike some of the same crud that comes out. These guys probably will hit their mark on the next album can't wait for it.This Message Edited On 04.27.06
