The horns and shit get in the way on Bryter Layter and 5 Leaves Left for me. Theyre both really good, but I prefer the bareness of this one.

The bareness is exactly what makes this so good.

Omni, I really just don't like orchestral type instruments in general. Well most of them anyway.

@hans
I'm not sure what you mean by that i.e. "Poor Boy" has that great jazz orchestration behind it... how can you not love that.
so you don't like the orchestrated version of "Magic" either?

they're ok. I respect orchestra arrangements, I just usually prefer not to listen to them if I can help it.

Actually most of the backup instrumental in BL reminds me a lot of Van Morrison which is probably what
I like about it. I love that late 60's early 70's jazz rock sound.
But I hear you.

Hans has two criteria for music.
1. Does it Rock Out? if yes: Like it. if no: see 2
2. Was it mainstream in the 80's and/or 90's? if yes: Like it. if no: call it fag music

Peter Sinfield (King Crimson) once stated in interview that Nick Drake was his all time fav artist. That's all what it took to get myself his discog, about 10 years ago. Needless to say, I really did myself a favor.

Brandon, you forgot 60's and 70's and country and hip hop, and my guilty pleasure love for power ballads.
