i guess i just kind of assumed you were a big T.I. fan bc of your love for Jeezy and Gucci

well i thought that i've ripped on Gucci's lyrical ability before, but I'll do it again. let's take a look at some of his lyrics:

Bubble kush my medicine diabetes need excelling Gucci Mane need Ecstasy so bitches be scared of me I'm gone rock the Gucci mane lil boy 10 steps ahead of me you 9 steps ahead of me you gone be a wet up man federal chederal ain't no nigga betteral Gucci mane la fare and yes sir I got exceteral whole lot a cheddar bruh whole lot of cabbage bruh whole lot of yams give a damn I got grahams Gucci

Run that shit the fuck back man we do this shit man run that shit the fuck back man these pussy ass niggas ain't hearin me right man wat the fuck wrong with these niggas nigga this walkie talkie nigga

Spit game up bottom bitch banger you look like the feds homie we don't talk to strangers swag team on deck no sir they can't contain us blow the best dro smoke come in glad lock containers the money dumb with it bitch I'm young, rich, and famous ask me where I dwell in the city of anus I'm the shit my nigga need a colonoscopy sit boo boo sit bitch get ya paws up off me

first of all, he has to mispronounce "excelling" just to get a rhyme for "medicine." strike one.

also, are "chederal" or "betteral" even words? what the hell is he even talking about? strike two.

also, rhyming "banger" with "stranger" is one of the more played out rhymes in hip hop, he's like the 50th rapper to do that. strike three.

does that work?

well, i was mostly trolling earlier, but now that i see youre willing to have an actual discussion ill quit

lol well first of all the only thing TI has in common with Gucci or Jeezy is the fact that he's from Atlanta, so you might as well compare Goodie Mob or Outkast to them (but oh wait, they have a place within the "southern rap that it's okay for sputnik users to like" pantheon)

and I looked it up and that song is from 2 years ago, so its pretty convenient that you picked a song from before gucci mane started stepping up his rapping. im not gonna lie, for the first 4 or so years of his career gucci mane wasn't a good rapper, so i'm not going to argue with an analysis of lyrics that don't really represent the niche he's gotten

"Tell big booty Gina from Virginia if you ever see her
I remember last November and I can't wait 'til the sequel
Where's my equal? I don't see him, never met him, never meet him
If I meet him, I'ma greet him, beat him, eat him up and leave him"

this is more indicative of gucci's current lyrical abilities, internal rhymes, double-time rapping, and all. i'm not going to get into what i feel makes him a good lyricist, but if you've got the time, read this review i wrote of one of his mixtapes, i discuss it there.

just reread my review and i dont get that in depth about his lyrics

basically, what i like about gucci mane is his ability to talk about his trite subjects in ways that few other rappers do. he uses vocabulary that isn't obscure, but out of place in the traditional rap lexicon. check out this blog post instead.

weird, neither link is working for me. looks like both pages have been removed.

so, I'll just have to go off what you said in your comments and the lyrics you posted.

those lyrics are definitely better than what I picked out, though I still think you'll find more complex rhyming in MF Doom, old Atmosphere (and by old I mean Headshots and Overcast!), Aesop Rock, GZA or even Mac Lethal and El-P records than that.

I associate Jeezy and Gucci with T.I. because more of what they rap about than anything, although they're definitely more tongue in cheek than him in my experience. Goodie Mob and Outkast are completely different than trap rap, and for the record, I lived the first 14 years of my life in the city of Atlanta (not the suburbs, I lived in Cabbagetown and the LFP).

ah, the problem with the links is that sputnik puts a "/a" at the end of it

http://somanyshrimp.com/2010/02/25/best-gucci-verses-of-2009/

and youre definitely more likely to find complex rhyming in those artists (out of whom im a big fan of
GZA - albeit mostly his older material - old atmos, and some doom, although i really need to get
company flow), because gucci isn't really about complex rhyming, it's about the wordplay and bizarre
terminology

did you write that? if so, color me impressed, that was insightful and well-written. also +1 for using "inveigh" in a sentence.

that at least helps explain to me why other people like Gucci, even if he's not my style (I doubt I'll ever really enjoy his stuff, but weirder things have happened). At this point I almost feel like he's the anti-Mac Lethal, in that most of his stellar stuff (at least according to fans) is on mix-tapes, b-sides or "unreleased" stuff (what does that even mean anymore? it all gets released eventually anyways) and that people who don't "get" him are generally very vitriolic in their hate. Same with Mac Lethal, he's just on the other side of the hip hop spectrum in regards to aesthetic, sound, delivery etc. Interesting stuff, at the very least.

I actually love this album. I didn't really like Drake when he first came out, but now he's one of my favorites.

This review is absolute ass. It's obvious you aren't a real hip-hop fan and that you rely heavily on generalizations. Leave hip-hop reviews to people that really know the music.

is there a way to overturn reviews. This is seriously biased bullshit. This review is coming from someone that rates Gucci man albums as "Excellent"
Are you kidding me? Drake is spitting fire throughout the entire album, nice beats,, nicely composed catchy songs. other rappers wish that could possess an ounce of his creativity. This album deserves way more than a 1.5, bt i guess it goes to show how lame how some people on this site are, the album nearly went Gold it's first week. So, nothing any lames on this website will ever matter. Drizzy is on top.

all reviews are biased because everybody has their own opinions

i havent listened to this except for "Shut It Down" (which is amazing) so i cant comment but i
personally hate drake's "dash punchlines" (shake and bake - ricky bobby, come and find me - nemo).
and why the hell do you need to mention that the reviewer likes gucci mane? frankly afaic gucci mane
is way more creative than drake in the words he uses in his rapping.

dont get butthurt just because you disagree with the review. write a review of your own instead.
