I saw La Dispute the other night but somehow the highlight was listening to this 4 times through on the drive home from the show

I wanted to get one of The National's albums and have been pretty much set on Boxer. Should I wait for this instead?

yea, Alligator's a great way to get into this band. I'd suggest going Boxer, High Violet then Sad Songs, but it doesn't really matter. Even Sad Songs is really good, just not as much as the newer three.

well this is the first album I absolutely loved on first listen, alligator and boxer took more time for me to love. but it might be because I was just getting into them at the time and now I'm used to their sound

nvmd it just sounded like you had gotten into them awhile ago and now you view the sound differently, like "at the time" and "took more time to love."

but this is a band that grows quick as fuck, so I know what you mean.

I think I was in the wrong mood when on the one time I tried this so I won't bother rating it, but I just sort of found it a bit boring

I can see that. Listen to this on a dreary miserable day and it fits perfectly, especially the lyrics. I find the National to be some of the best drinking music when your drinking alone.

this will be probably be tied with Alligator which is amazing but its no Boxer. On first listen it sounds to me that the drums seem to be taken a step back, thats likely to change.
