This might be her best effort yet. I've heard some songs off it and some of them sound very good (reminiscent of Kate Bush at times). Others though I didn't like so much so I might not think this is a classic. I think she was acclaimed a little too early before as she sounded a little different, but she obviously didn't just rest on what she had done and wanted to be even more creative. She may yet do even better.

Its actually the length of two discs though, they just separated it into 3 discs or 3 LP's.
|
| |
well whatever if she cut out like 1/3 of the music it would be amazing

I've been listening to this since it came out and right now I enjoy every song. I'm completely fine with its length.

I understand why people love Joanna. She have some truly beautiful songs in her discography,
however...
I do feel that this album is being overhyped, especially on Sputnik. It's decent, but it isn't
anywhere near CLASSIC.
I appreciate her ambition, but there are a few things that don't work.
1. The album length is a bit overbearing. She could have easily cut out about 6 songs and made this
at the least, a double-album.
2. The redundancy is what really kills it for me. There's only so many average 6+ minute ballads I
can listen to in a row before I start to get bored and itching to click the "next" button. And this
is coming from someone who has a long-attention-span who LOVES 10+ minute songs. Too many songs
sound alike, so much that they don't stand out enough from one another. After listening to the
album, it feels like a big blur, instead of a mosaic of independent songs. For her next album I
recommend her to really switch her style up, add more instrumentation, carry out the orchestration
longer in her songs, include more upbeat and midtempo songs to give the album balance. She is
asking a lot for people to listen to 3 disc of very slow ballads for 2 hours, especially if the
ballads sound quite similar to one another.
Those are my main complaints. Other than that, there are quite some gorgeous songs here. I think
some of the songs on this album work better if mixed in a playlist rather than listened to within
the whole album.
And also, "In California" is a good song, but I was expecting to hear something as epic as Sufjan
Steven's "Impossible Soul" the way people were describing it here, I listened to it and i was
"that's it? that's what people were going nuts for?" It was an OK song, but not as great as you guys
made it out to be.

I'm not overhyping it, I know it isn't a classic. But there are some good songs within the album at least and it's the best she has done yet. Other things get hyped with no good songs at all.
