No. I'm saying it's ridiculous for one to spend so much time talking about why they hate ICP, and to directly attack them and their fanbase for no reason. It's not as if music I dislike does me direct harm. If I do not listen to it, I'm not affected by music I don't like.

not a big deal, really, I just fail to understand why ICP has such a large and passionate fanbase-- I was hoping someone could prove to me why they're deserving of it... just curious, that's all.

In Detroit, there was hardly any hip hop. Esham was the first big name in that rap scene, and ICP followed, and later House of Krazees, J Dilla, Eminem, D12, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, ABK populated the scene.
People like ICP, Esham and Eminem for the horror movie type themes and humor. There's also some real musical diversity that makes ICP unique in hip hop, with their use of carnival music, funk, rock, etc.

none of what you said has anything to do with why they're deserving of praise. like, why is this album a 4?
|

Cuz there's magic everywhere up in it.

The main reason people know of them is because they are faggots dressed up as clowns.
And I never use homophobic terms, I find it often sounding hateful and immature. And I personally think it's hilarious that two dropouts can achieve success by dressing up as clowns and having some haunted carnival themed shows, but most people who know of ICP think of them as "Those fag clown rappers".

I liked the album concept, the humor, the diversity in the music, and focus on more diverse subject matter than bling, cars, hos, and other mainstream rap subject matter. There's a song about stopping to look around to see what's good in life, there are songs going after people who molest children and take advantage of ailing relatives, there are horror movie storylines like "Fonz Pond".
There's a lot to the music as well, like on "The Bone", where Mike E. Clark has a surf guitar line under the beat.
4/5 isn't the highest rating the album has gotten. One professional reviewer gave it 4.5/5:

It's not a classic, considering that it just came out, and it doesn't have the staying power of, say, Enter the Wu-Tang or Dr. Octagon.

They didn't achieve success by "dressing up as clowns". They achieved success because of their music and lyrics. They wear face paint, but not clown costumes. Their clothing is probably similar to what you're wearing right now.
The reason that people know of them is because of their unprecedented success in the independent music scene.

Personally I think the haunted carnival theme has its merits. It's just the execution that's so goddamn awful.

Seriously they do a better impression of white trash than Jaime Pressly on My Name Is Earl.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, dude you're fucking hilarious.
Get ready for the carnival thrills
Should of kept your little faggot ass in the hills
Boom! through the door into the room, you gotta check it out

If you're fucking with the juggla you're a dead duck
Lyrical genius!

"White trash" is a really offensive term in relation to ICP, Eminem, etc. That's like calling African-Americans the N-word.

"My Fun House" is a great track, classic Detroit acid rap/horrorcore.
|
| |
I'd never call Emiem "white trash" tbh.
Also in my mind it was just a generic/stereotypical statement. As with all statements it is only offensive to those of a certain disposition, and in this case probably those most likely to be on the recieving end of the words.
So yeah, I'm sticking with white trash.
|
| |
you're acting like 'white trash' is a race. I find that offensive, bitch. it's not an ethnicity, it's a bunch of losers that live in trailer parks.
|
| |
having fun here folks?
|

If you really gave as shit about minor political incorrectness like that, than certainly you have a problem with ICP's use of faggot, right? Or perhaps faggots don't count.

I like gettin' my dick sucked, jacked off and salad tossed
