"I find new black metal with external influences so much more entertaining"
I found it a lot more satisfying working backwards from the newer stuff to here. Once you can hear the lineage of influences it's easier to appreciate, in my opinion.

"I find new black metal with external influences so much more entertaining"
translation: I don't actually like black metal and I listen to a lot of garbage for indie kids

Are u sure u understand metal?
metal in generally tends to be over the top and therein lies it's appeal/the fun.
venom is a prime example for that.
enough discussion back to smashing:
Drink from chalice warm and sweet
Virgin's heart final beat
Lightning strikes virgin dies
Satan smiles

Sure, as long as we agree this album is silly.
|
| |
It's in a cheesy 80's Late Nights Creep Show-way totally atmospheric though.
Only song that maybe takes it a bit too far in the silly department is Teacher's Pet.

@Thalassic agreed
It's appropriately "silly". It's the good kind of cheese, which makes 80's metal so good.

"Are u sure u understand metal?"
Amazing. I'm still not sure you aren't joking.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to the kind of cheese you can dig though.
When it comes to 80's metal, I do really like the edgy "let's shock some people" kinda cheese like this one or the more "escapism"-like cheese, but I'm not much of a fan of the "rock out with your cock out" leather pants kinda cheese (Accept, Saxon, 80's Priest...)
