Older Portal....hahaha...There arent TOO many bands that sound quite like Portal out there...
Myrkskog...they're pretty fucking crazy.
Altar of Plagues maybe? In a Black Metal sort of way.....

Impetuous Ritual and Aethyrvorous, then to a lesser extent Ignivomous, Bestial Warlust, Mitochondrion, Excommunion, Diocletian, etc etc.

I've seen Portal twice (the only two shows they've played in the past two years - and I had to drive 900km to get to the second one). One of the greatest bands I have ever had the privilege of seeing.
They're touring America very shortly, starting with the Maryland Deathfest. If you get the chance, do not miss them. One of the greatest bands I have ever had the privilege of seeing. They've been working hard to make sure everyone leaves with a new take on what a live show is about and trust me, it's a completely different experience to your average death metal gig.
Just something about the review, the guys actually don't like being referred to as "extreme, brutal, technical, etc", as words like that are usually associated with bands that try to play the fastest blast beat or have the most difficult guitar solo - which is far from what Portal is about.
