Nothing past doing English in school. But I write the lyrics in my band, if you wanna count that as experience.

That's pretty solid of you. I don't criticize lyrics too much, cause when I'm writing my lyrics I get writer's block like 95% of the time.

Tbh I find it so much easier writing lyrics to just nothing, than writing to music. Probably because you're not constrained by musical beats and time signatures etc.

If ya ever need any help you can always shoutbox me, plus there's a section in the forums for writers too (haven't checked it out myself though)

Yeah, I get you. Though, I'm admittedly VERY shy, so I'm like super self-conscious about everything I write (irony cause I'm also the screamer), I'm getting better and more open though.

What do you generally write about?

Usually kinda surreal lyrics, with comparisons to things that've happened to me. Also I've noticed I'm putting too much of my fascination with the ocean into the lyrics, for better or worse.

Yeah i've pulled out that metaphor a few times, the usual "uncontrollable sweeping juggernaut sweeping me away" etc. Being a lyricist is a tricky thing to do, because unless you're in a cock rock band you're generally putting yourself on the page and opening it up for criticism.

Anything I write is in some small way based on things that have happened in my life, be it directly about or taken a specific incident and spun it around and told a different take on it. I try and write ambigiously, giving the reader/listener to take from it what they see as the "true meaning".

How long ya been writing for?

I've been writing about a solid 6 months now. I try to about as "real" as possible when I'm writing, but It doesn't help that I'm incredibly shy.

Mex: All I can say is keep working on it man. 6 months is a pretty short period of time though, i've been doing it for about 6-7 years.
Only problem is your writing will suffer if your shyness is preventing you from fully opening up in your lyrics

It's not a feature. They're switching featured albums of 2009 around.
