I don't know, it doesn't really sound new though. It sounds like they've run with one element of their previous work and jettisoned the rest.
The direct songwriting also doesn't result in anything too catchy either except maybe Golden Gal and Floridada, and the overall result is actually their least immediate album to my ears outside of Here Comes the Indian.

Don't know, everyone is talking about how "poppy" or how varied and dense or not) are the sounds in Painting With actually is, but we aren't talking about the honesty, the magic, the deepness, the pureness that surrounds most of the albums from AnCo is, even if is sometimes not applied well in a technic way(?) and i find Painting With so superficial...it's sad

Kman - those songs sound catchy like chants and repetition are inherently catchy over time. It's kinda the root of the forced sounding childishness I was getting at in the review. They've made playtime sound a bit boring because they are a mature sounding band now if they like it or not. The two approaches don't mesh for me. These songs aren't songful-catchy like their best material and they aren't genuinely fun sounding like Win a Rabbit or We Tigers
Proto it does sound a bit too superficial, and that's hard to take from a heart on sleeves act like AnCo. Also I was hoping the first two paragraphs of my review explained the magic of AnCo and what's missing on the new one?

Yes, Doof. I agree with your review and your first two paragraphs explain that, don't worry.

close to 5ing this tbh
Why must we move on from such happy lawns
Into nostalgia's palm and feed on the traces
Do you hop to the dance or embarrass the parents?
Who should I please? I'll go to sleep worrying
That blood in the dark will attract the sharks
Who are not violent, we've all got hungry bellies
love it

fuck why are their songs so hard to sing/play at the same time though

I love how every anco record is the same exact album repackaged over and over again

Hahaha good one. If they just repackaged this album over and over they'd have as many 5's on my list as the Front Bottoms does on yours.

Agreed, with demigod. How this could be boring, I have no idea. Did you just skip For Reverend Green and Fireworks or what?

also its chill if u dont like anco i dont really care but if you're really trying to say they "repackage the same album over and over" you've either literally not listened to more than 1 album and are just pretending you have or you had some predisposed opinion of them going into every album so you just assumed that would be the case and then you didn't really listen
