I mean the last page was how metal was mostly awful/modern metal is bad so it's not entirely baseless + not really guns blazing or heated if I'm leading with doomer lol

I’ll give credit where it’s due. I peep the occasional album that sput really hypes to see what’s going on and see if there is anything exciting. I listened to that the armed band recently and thought they stood out. And I listened to part of that artificial intelligence album yesterday and it was pretty good. But still waiting on something to hook me back in. If it is achieved I will stand corrected. But I feel the same way about a lot of genres that don’t have a lot of room to incorporate electronics tastefully. Like Rock is severely stagnating imo as well. Same with folk. Again there are always exceptions but speaking generally that’s how I feel.

@mars we weren’t even talking about modern metal for the most part. There’s like one comment on that page that even mentioned it
|

As for most of metal being awful… most of every genre is awful
|
| |
yeah we were really just talking about metal in general but i think my "havent heard good metalcore since the 00s" is what set him off haha
|
| |
We live in a time where pretty much anyone can make and upload music to the internet, there is A LOT of trash
|
| |
very good point
|
| |
and for the record i will check seizures once this stupid work meeting is over so havent given up on exploring the scene or whatever
|
| |
Seizures were superb, I just usually struggle to recommend them because of the drama that eventually came out.

If you're looking for depressioncore you might like counterparts and Casey anode. They're not entirely my thing but they're really solid for modern metalcore. Also check misery signals if you haven't (you don't have many ratings so idk what you've jammed) I think the whole recognizing most music is kinda same-y has to do with how we interact with music too on this site. Generally people on here have higher standards than your basic music enjoyer. I think it was the parkway Drive thread where people were talking about how their reviews were paid for but I really think it's just easier to find people that think "whoa, this is badass!" You can look up any YouTube comment section for any song and find someone saying it's their favorite song.

"As for most of metal being awful… most of every genre is awful"
OK this is true from that macro-perspective, the whole thing is inundated. Respect your views even if I can't take that perspective.
And Parkway sucks [2]

Seizures Reveries Diamond or whatever it was called was an absolute gem, the unsavoury shit was unfortunate but it doesn’t change that fact… I guess it’s understandable you wouldn’t necessarily want to recommend them
From this year I’d say Pensees Nocturnes, Ashenspire & even Sput-core darlings Rolo have evolved quite nicely, all their releases were pretty darn innovative - certainly not restricted to well-trodden metal tropes and stereotypical song-writing cruxes anyway

yeh ive heard misery signals. usually if im not digging something i wont listen long enough to rate fairly so thats why i have so few ratings. ill try counterparts and casey havent heard those

Yeah I'd rather direct people elsewhere to modern acts that are still active and worth supporting, but it *is* a good recommendation. No judgement on it, I just usually avoid it personally.
Counterparts overrated ngl, but Demon's got some hot recs

I was racking my brain trying to think of "depressioncore" but those two were the only ones that really came to mind immediately. Especially if we're talking in the vein of hanl depression. You'd think there would be more examples cuz it seems like it'd be a perfect match for the genre. I guess there's Sufferer but that's not really metalcore. I don't expect him to like it much tbh if mis sigs wasn't his thing but you never know.
