His review is hardly null because you disagree with an opinion expressed.

Went to Best Buy tonight and they didn't have the album. Fuckers. Time to visit Amazon. How's the artwork in general? I hope better than the album cover. Loved the artwork for Colors but the cover for this looks kinda lame. Album is amazing though, to say the least.

...criticizing the instrumental part of Swim to the Moon and saying the song is 10 (!) minutes too long (and with dedicating an entire paragraph to it, you actually seem mad), calling Dream Theater's epics terrible, calling Colors a mess, specifically with Ants of the Sky and Sun of Nothing (probably the two best songs next to White Walls)...

FYI, I said Sun of Nothing and Ants of the Sky were the best on Colors. I said the 'wacky' parts cheapened what was otherwise the album's best sequence of songs.

Jazz musicians write 30 minute songs all the time. Between the Buried and Me is heavily influenced by jazz. Hence the incredible length of Swim to the Moon. Describing it as self indulgent doesn't take into account what the band is trying to achieve in the first place.

What jazz musicians are you listening to? Firstly, jazz musicians don't typically write 30 minute songs. They often go into extended jams, sure, but that's the nature of the beast; that's why you listen to jazz. Furthermore, they go into these jams during sessions, not on studio albums. Finally, there is nothing 'jazz' about Between the Buried and Me, and beyond that, I noted that the extended jams in Swim to the Moon would be effective in a live setting (which is where jazz musicians would employ such passes), but that they were tedious on a supposed 'song' (and there is a difference between a song and a jam).

I agree. If a song doesn't strictly follow the Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Breakdown-Outro construct, it's just a bunch of mindless jamming and showing off with no clear direction.

What's funny is I never said this. But you rival Nic Cage in your ability to burn down a straw man. Where's the bear suit?

the thing is what has the fanboys got to be angry about? he practically gave a positive review with the exception of swim to the moon and even then he states its a good song still. Jesus fucking christ theres no pleasing some people.

to me, It doesn't matter how long one song is, especially for them, because i don't consider anything in the album as "mindless jamming" or "showing off". They use great chord progressions and time signature transitions. blake's abilities to use different percussion styles to support what the rest of the band plays sets the bar very high for other metal drummers. they don't just come up with crap in their garage and try to make songs out of it. they sit down and write the music, with advanced music theory techniques. to me, the great misdirect was an advancement from colors, but in no way was colors "a mess". colors was a masterpiece for the band. the songs were long, and the transitions may have been non-existent, but everything they did had a musical effect on the album as a whole. they didn't write colors for it to sound like a mainstream metal album. they wrote it as one unified idea. I can understand why some people may not like some things, such as the vocals or metal in general, but the band has the best musical abilities in playing, writing, expression, and style that i've ever heard from a metal band.

it looks like a lot of people on here need to learn some stuff about music before they post such crappy, mindless, and opinionated comments. and i thought the review was terrible. It doesn't matter how long one song is, especially for them, because nothing in the entire album is "mindless jamming" or "showing off". Yeah, so that may be your opinion but it doesn't make the review terrible, you just disagree with it. The reviewer can enjoy the band but show maturity over rampaging fanboy-ism by pointing out and making fair criticisms, rather than wantonly praising everything the band does.

I agree with you and changed it up a bit, the other stuff was just how i felt at first.
i think their musicality is worth a lot more than what people may think.

"His review is hardly null because you disagree with an opinion expressed."

True, I should have worded that differently, and i generally like cocaine's reviews, but if he didn't like Alaska or Colors then wouldn't care for this review because of our difference of opinion. But i do stand by my opinion about those 2 albums, although i should've said this generation of metal, because most new metal these days sucks dick.

I gave it a four out of five.

Also, the thought of new users registering just to bash a POSITIVE review is pretty hilarious. Between the Buried and Me might have some of the stupidest fans I've encountered all year.
